Sighthounds are built differently from most dogs — deep chest, narrow waist, long back and almost no body fat. A coat cut for an average dog will gape at the chest and swim at the waist. Here is how to measure your whippet, italian greyhound or galgo correctly.
The one measurement that matters: back length
Stand your dog squarely and measure along the spine from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. That number is what our sizing is based on.
Dogco sighthound size chart (2–7)
- Size 2 — 35–40 cm
- Size 3 — 40–45 cm
- Size 4 — 45–49 cm
- Size 5 — 49–52 cm
- Size 6 — 52–55 cm
- Size 7 — 55–60 cm

If your dog falls between two sizes, size up — the chest is adjustable with velcro, so a slightly longer coat still fits snugly.
Why the fit is different for sighthounds
Every Dogco coat is cut for the sighthound shape: tapered at the waist, deep at the chest, with an opening at the neck so you can clip the leash to the collar without taking the coat off. See the full range of sighthound coats and jackets — down jackets for deep cold, wool and softshell for winter, and water-resistant raincoats for wet walks.
