Whippets and italian greyhounds sleep in two modes: curled into a tight ball, or stretched out flat like they’ve been poured onto the sofa. The right bed has to allow both — which is why bed size matters more than you’d think.
Whippet tip: the most commonly chosen size is a bed of 90 cm diameter or 100×80 cm.
How to measure
Measure your dog lying fully stretched out, from nose to the base of the tail, and add 10–15 cm. That gives room to turn, dig and stretch. When in doubt, size up — sighthounds love space.
Which bed style for a sighthound?
- Covered cave beds (“nests”) — the favourite. The hood creates a warm, dark burrow that helps anxious and cold-sensitive dogs settle.
- Round poufs — deep, plush and easy to curl into; a stylish piece for the living room.
- Beddy-bye pillow beds — a built-in pillow that mimics a human bed, for dogs who like to rest their head up high.
