If you own a sighthound, you have probably heard it: “don’t walk them on a thin collar.” There is real logic behind it — and it comes down to their delicate build.
The delicate-throat problem
Whippets, greyhounds and italian greyhounds have slender necks and a sensitive windpipe sitting close to the surface. A thin collar concentrates all the pressure onto a narrow strip — and the moment the dog pulls or lunges, that force lands on the throat.
Why a wide collar is safer
A wide collar spreads the pressure over a much larger area, taking the load off the trachea and cervical spine. It is gentler on the throat, more comfortable on walks, and far kinder if your dog is a puller. It is also the classic, elegant look sighthounds are known for.
Choosing the right width and size
Measure the neck circumference with a soft tape and add about 2 cm for comfort. For a slim sighthound neck, a broad leather band gives the best balance of protection and elegance. Our collars are adjustable within a range.
